Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 Office Notebook: Inexpensive but weak

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 (81W100DHGE) is a passable notebook for around 500 euros. However, if you compare it with some of the other options in the test, the weaknesses become clear: The performance is mediocre, but suitable for everyday use. The battery life is okay, but it doesn't last over a working day. The rather dark color and low-contrast screen is not particularly fun, however. The equipment is mediocre in line with the price, but that is a trade-off that can be made with the right USB hub. After all, the notebook is extremely quiet and the build quality is typically good for Lenovo. We explain in the video what you should pay attention to when buying a notebook.

Lenovo Ideapad 3 15ADA05 Review: A cheap office laptop
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 has a rather slow AMD 3020e processor. The dual-core CPU does not offer hyperthreading and works with clock rates between 1.2 and 2.6 GHz. The integrated graphics chip AMD Radeon Graphics does not offer enough performance for modern games. The system works fast enough for office and co.

The hard drive, an M.2 SSD, only has 128 GB of storage space, but it can be exchanged and still offers the usual fast speeds. The RAM, which is only 4 GB in size, can also be upgraded if necessary, the notebook has a total of up to twelve gigabytes. The CPU supports a maximum of DDR4-2400 in dual channel. Windows 10 is preinstalled in the limited S version. Here you can only install apps from Microsoft's App Store. You can upgrade the OS to a full Windows 10 Home at no additional cost.

The equipment is sparse, but okay for the size and price point: it offers a USB 2.0 port and two USB 3.0 ports as well as an HDMI input. A headphone / microphone combo connection completes the overall package. We rate the keyboard's extra number pad positively, for which there is space thanks to the large screen. The keyboard is not exactly on the ThinkPad level, but it is still very good. The keyboard is not as crisp as our testers are used to from the ThinkPads, but the IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 was able to collect valuable plus points with it.

Lenovo Ideapad 3: Ideal for the home office?
The biggest selling point for the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 is the low price. This price often goes hand in hand with some disadvantages, for example the storage space is severely limited with this device. Nevertheless, the notebook is suitable as a cheap desktop replacement for the home office. If you use the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 a lot, the weight of 1.9 kg could be a bit too high in the long run.

The battery life could also be better: You can watch videos for almost 7.5 hours at a time, but the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 only lasted around 5 hours in our more demanding office battery life test. Top models manage (sometimes significantly) over ten hours.

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 Pros:

  • Good handling
  • Cheap
  • Passable battery life

Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ADA05 Cons:

  • Low memory & storage space
  • Just sufficient equipment and mediocre screen
  • Windows 10 only in S mode
