Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 AMD (20UH001AGE) Short Test & Specification

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 AMD comes with powerful and durable thanks to the AMD Ryzen 4000. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 AMD (20UH001AGE) convinces in the test as an excellent overall package. Thanks to AMD Ryzen Processor, the performance is just as great as the long battery life.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 AMD Review

In addition to good brightness, the display also offers good color space coverage. As is typical for ThinkPad, the input devices are unsurpassed and the variety of connections only reveals a need for improvement in smaller areas. In the video we show you our impressions of the device.

The case of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 AMD (20UH001AGE), made of magnesium and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), feels very valuable. The case stability is very good, so that you can pick up the light device with one hand without hesitation. The keyboard offers the typical ThinkPad qualities: Strong counterpressure and excellent travel make typing a pleasure.

The two-stage, white key illumination is easy to turn on in the dark with the key combination Fn + space bar and also illuminates the function keys with good contrasts. In the middle of the keyboard is the red trackpoint as an additional mouse replacement and above the pleasant clickpad are the mouse buttons for the trackpoint.

A typical ThinkPad quality

In addition to the clickpad, there is also a fingerprint sensor, which in addition to the IR camera (0.9 megapixel resolution) offers a simple login option for Windows. The case is pleasantly light at 1.27 kilograms. In addition, there are 345 grams for the power supply.

The cable, including the power supply, has a length of a reasonable 2.85 meters. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s is a little bigger than a DIN A4 sheet of paper and is not extremely, but pleasantly thin.

All kinds of connections suitable for everyday use fit on the side of the case. In addition to a large HDMI socket, Lenovo also installs two classic USB type A ports (3.0 standard) and two modern USB-C sockets (3.0 standard with DisplayPort signal transmission). You charge the device via USB-C, there is a Kensington eye for locking the notebook as well as a webcam cover for your privacy.

WiFi-6 (ax-WLAN) and Bluetooth 5.1 are available as radio standards. For wired LAN you either need a docking station or a separate Ethernet adapter. The device can also read out a micro SD card, but for this as with smartphones and you have to pull out a slide on the back of the device using a needle. This is a somewhat impractical solution for a notebook – especially since cameras have larger SD cards.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 AMD: Powerful and economical AMD Ryzen 4000 processor

The powerful AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U works inside the device. Below the Ryzen 7 4800U, this is the second fastest processor in the 15-watt class of the Ryzen 4000 series. The performance is outstanding and especially when compared to Intel devices with the 10th core generation.

The user is sure to have enough power for everyday use with plenty of power reserves. There is also 16 gigabytes of RAM and a very fast 512 gigabyte SSD.

We think it’s great that the performance doesn’t come at the expense of the battery life. This is due to the efficient processor and the 57 watt hour battery. The device lasts for a whopping 15 hours when watching videos. With intensive surfing it is a little under 10 hours and even more demanding work can be done for a whole working day: namely over 8 hours.

In addition, the battery is recharged very quickly. After just 30 minutes, it is full from 5 to 51 percent of its nominal capacity. An excellent value!

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 AMD: Good display and good sound

The entry-level ThinkPads in particular are sometimes provided with sobering display panels. Not so with this T14s. Lenovo uses a 14-inch panel with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels. The surface is matt and the maximum brightness is a good 370 cd/m².

The very good checkerboard contrast of 180 to 1 shows that the device can display both dark and light areas at the same time. The display with stable viewing angles can also be viewed from the side without color distortions or a strong drop in contrast. The reproducible colors are pleasantly strong with a coverage of the sRGB color space of 96 percent.

The other impressions of the device are also convincing: For example, it works silently for a long time. The fan only turns on with a very low noise under heavy load, unfortunately accompanied by a somewhat high-frequency tone.

The loudspeakers offer a good sound, with neither the bass nor the treble being over-present. Still, we missed a convincing bass, and the maximum volume could also be a bit too low in a good mood. In the end, the sound quality is still on a good level.

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 Pros:

  • Very high quality magnesium case
  • Good variety of connections with 4x USB
  • excellent input devices
  • strong computing power & bright display
  • 8-15 hours of battery life

Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G1 Cons:

  • LAN only via an additional adapter
  • Micro SD card reader hidden and can only be opened with a needle
