Windows 10 Re-installation easier than ever

Not everything was better in the past; reinstalling Windows, for example, was incredibly time-consuming.

Today there are various simple ways to reinstall Windows, via ISO file, with Microsoft tools such as the Media Creation Tool or a rather new built-in cloud download function in Windows 10.

Reinstallation Windows 10

Windows 10 gets tough criticism from time to time, including from us. But there are also good sides to Microsoft’s current operating system, but many innovations fail to become known beyond the circle of Windows fans.

For example: There has been a cloud download function for resetting Windows 10 for a while. It allows re-installation without fiddling with ISO files and basically a factory reset as we know it from systems like Android.

Windows cloud download for reinstallation

Reinstalling Windows has never been easier. Windows 10 has had a reset function for a long time. Resetting to factory settings is practically a new installation and can be found under “Updates and Security” in the settings. Click on “Recovery”.

With “Reset this PC” you have to click on “Let’s go” and then you have had the choice for a long time whether you want to keep your personal data and remove everything. “Remove all” is the way to do a fresh installation.

In the next step you have to decide between the new “cloud download” and the “local reinstallation”. The difference: the cloud download pulls a new Windows image from Microsoft, the local version uses the local Windows basic system for reinstallation.

Important: Even the cloud download does not load the latest Windows 10, but always the exact version that is currently being used on the PC.

If you have a fast Internet connection, the cloud download is a practical option for reinstalling Windows. You don’t even have to deal with ISOs anymore.

But the thing is, the Windows reset only works if Windows is still running reasonably. If Windows has given up the ghost or the cloud download fails, you have to do more manual work. How to reinstall Windows 10 then, see below.

Load Windows ISO

The Media Creation Tool loads an ISO from Windows 10 and writes it to a USB stick. Many roads lead to a Windows 10 image. You can download it for free via the Windows and Office ISO downloader.

If you prefer to work with a Microsoft tool, the Media Creation Tool is recommended to you. It offers a perfect step-by-step sequence for the clean install.

Select only the Windows 10 version you need and create a USB stick. Important: The stick is made completely flat. So if you have important data saved there, back it up in advance.

For a few months now, Microsoft has also been updating the MCT more often, so that the ISOs supplied are more up-to-date.

The Windows key is important

Make the key visible: Without a Windows key, Windows can only be used for a short time. But be careful, just because we gave you a tool with which you can download Windows images for free doesn’t mean that Windows is free.

You need a valid Windows license to activate and use Windows.

In practice, you prove this right of use with a Windows key that you have to enter during installation. If you already have this key, all the better.

If it is still in a used Windows installation, read it out with the Windows Product Key Viewer tool. Otherwise, of course, there is always the option of buying a Windows key.

Since Windows 7 or 8 keys can also be used for Windows 10 and these are often already stored in the BIOS, you may no longer be asked for a license key when reinstalling. The installation then simply runs through.

Windows write to USB stick

Windows on USB stick: Rufus writes Windows images to USB sticks in one go. As described above, the Media Creation Tool also writes the ISO image to the USB stick, but this does not always succeed. A reliable alternative in this case is the Rufus tool which you can get here:

But regardless of whether you work with the Media Creation Tool or Rufus, the stick is ready and you can get down to business. Then boot your PC or notebook from the USB stick.

To do this, you have to set the boot order so that the USB stick comes first. The computer will then boot directly into the Windows installation and the installation wizard will guide you through the setup.

Reinstall Windows

Custom: Instead of an upgrade installation, choose the custom installation. Windows installation is not particularly difficult. There is only one point where you should be careful.

Windows usually also offers an upgrade if an active Windows partition is found somewhere. For the clean reinstallation, you’d better choose the custom way.

Then you can also reformat the hard drive / SSD. Depending on the hardware and Windows version, one or more restarts are due in between.

Here, too, you can see an advantage of Windows 10, no other Windows can be reinstalled so quickly. Windows 10 starts very quickly, especially on an SSD.

To re-install Windows 10 you can get the file from the official source from Microsoft Windows, yes all you have to do just visit this link: and start to download the ISO. Happy using windows 10.
