ZTE Axon 11 5G – Inconspicuously Good!

The ZTE Axon 11 5G convinced in the test with a good, 6.5-inch and bright OLED screen. The very good performance of the Snapdragon 765G processor is also impressive. In addition, the quad camera delivers really good, high-end photos in daylight. In twilight, however, the photo quality is no longer worth mentioning.

ZTE Axon 11 5G Review

We also miss a certified dust and water protection. Nevertheless, the ZTE Axon 11 5G remains a good mid-range 5G smartphone for a price of around 500 euros. But there are also much cheaper cell phones that are hardly less efficient.

ZTE Axon 11 5G Review: Contemporary design, good display

The design of the Axon 11 5G is well done, but not particularly exciting or exciting. A waterdrop notch, a square camera setup and rounded display corners. With its dimensions of 159 x 73 x 9.8 millimeters and a weight of 168 grams, it lies comfortably in the hand.

This is also due to the comparatively compact 6.5-inch OLED display that scores with a good resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels and thus with a pixel density of 398 ppi.

The maximum brightness of 658 candelas per square meter is in line with the price range and sufficient in every everyday situation, the automatic brightness controller unobtrusively boosts the maximum luminosity in sunlight. The OLED display also shows its strengths when it comes to color space coverage.

We measure a coverage of 140 percent for sRGB and a maximum of 100 percent for DCI-P3 98. The optical fingerprint sensor is integrated into the display and is not the fastest or most reliable of its kind. ZTE is happy to optimize this further.

ZTE Axon 11 5G: Good performance with mediocre equipment

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor works at 2,400 MHz, which, together with the 6 GB of RAM, scores a respectable 7,906 points in the PCMark benchmark and is therefore powerful enough for 3D games.

The equipment is mixed: On the one hand there is the current operating system Android 10 and Bluetooth 5.1. And with AC-WLAN the way is free for 5 GHz networks.

The LTE speed is also sufficiently fast at 1,000 Mbit/s. On the other hand, there is no separate headphone output and the Type-C USB 3.1 port has to be used for this. We also miss a certified dust and water protection.

Common in this class are 128 GB of memory, NFC for mobile payment and face recognition to unlock the cell phone. The simultaneous use of a SIM card and a memory card has proven to be practical.

Excellent camera – in daylight

For the camera, ZTE uses a 64-megapixel sensor for wide-angle shots, which is paired with an f / 1.89 aperture. An 8-megapixel sensor is also used, which is equipped with an ultra-wide-angle lens.

This has an f/2.2 aperture and a viewing angle of 120 degrees. Camera number three and four each have 2 megapixels and are responsible for the depth of field (TOF, “Time of Flight”) and the shooting of macro shots.

The selfie camera has a resolution of 20 megapixels and offers a normal wide angle. In daylight, the photos look really, really good current high-end level, everything wonderfully sharp with lots of details. In dim light, the recordings suffer from the usual weaknesses of the middle class. The pictures are acceptable here, but nothing more.

The battery performance of the ZTE Axon 11 5G does not correspond to what the competition in this price segment often offers, the smartphone costs around 500 euros.

With an online runtime of almost 10 hours and a charging time of almost 2:00 hours, the actually solid performance remains well behind the 16:24 hours of a Motorola Moto G 5G and the G 5G only costs around 310 euros. An 18-watt fast-charging power supply unit is included.

ZTE Axon 11 5G Pros:

  • First class camera in daylight
  • Very good performance
  • 5G capable

ZTE Axon 11 5G Cons:

  • Moderate photo quality in twilight
  • No dust and water protection
